- it is my impression or the lyrics on this page are still exactly the same?
- Only the translation is different, someone could please take a look? TheFlagandAnthemGuy (talk) 13:42, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
Title change
[edit]On a KCTV program about the event marking the completion of the second stage of the Hwasŏng Area, broadcast on 17 April, the national anthem was sung and the title “애국가” was displayed. However, in the rebroadcast on the next day, it was titled “조선민주주의인민공화국 국가”, possibly to distance itself from the ROK whose anthem has the same title. Do we have any official announcements yet about this change? OosakaNoOusama (talk) 18:52, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Aegukka → National Anthem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea – After the DPRK's abandonment of unification, the title Aegukka seems to have fallen out of use at least on KCTV (first on the Hwasŏng Area completion event, and now the July 27 "victory" celebration), and Korean: 조선민주주의인민공화국 국가, lit. 'National Anthem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea' has taken its place. On the other hand, the site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, as well as the current constitution, still mentions that the national anthem is titled "애국가". Another reason of my proposal is due to the current title's possible confusion with the ROK's Aegukga, where currently neither title has a modifier, which may cause confusion to readers not familiar to the two romanization systems. - Comment I'm not sure. The case for WP:COMMONNAME is a little weak here I think, as it's two data points. Furthermore, the proposed title is a direct translation of the Korean title, and not a title used in English-language reliable sources, per common name.
- The differentiation with the ROK's anthem is a valid concern, but what's stopping us from using a different differentiated title? Like Aegukga (South Korea) and Aekukka (North Korea)? Sure, English spellings aren't identical, but they correspond to the same Korean text. seefooddiet (talk) 10:35, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose pending more thorough rationale for move. I requested more information/rationale in my previous comment. seefooddiet (talk) 08:44, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- Strong Support: It is "Aegukka" no more, now it is listed as Anthem of DPRK... Xing 興 Talk 18:01, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

- Btw just my humble opinion but I think it'd be better to name all the anthem articles Anthem of (country name) for the sake of simplicity Xing 興 Talk 15:47, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME outweighs WP:TITLECON. You gotta read these pages fam. Your takes in these discussions will otherwise be overruled. seefooddiet (talk) 16:32, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- I've added my two cents, and I'll let the colleagues decide whether it should be moved or not. I still think it should be moved, though, the "Common name" is now dead, defunct. Still referring it Aegukka as the anthem of North Korea and not as the poem written by Pak Se-yong would be more than incorrect, just imagine calling someone their old name on purpose just because that is their "common name" – no, it isn't, it is called deadnaming. Nonetheless, since I'm replying now I'll try to match your suddenly changed, totally unprofessional tone, here we go: cool bro thanks big time u one tight fella out there! but it ain't no Aegukka no more, homie it's Chosŏn Minjujuŭi Inmin Konghwaguk Kukka! Xing 興 Talk 20:22, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- That argument doesn't work either. Turkey is the previous official name for Türkiye, but because it's still the WP:COMMONNAME we still use that as the article title. Sorry for the change in tone; it was meant to be more lighthearted but in hindsight I can see how it wouldn't read that way. But again, you really need to read those links carefully before participating in more of these move discussions. These links will come up in nearly every move discussion. seefooddiet (talk) 20:25, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose I would suggest waiting for the coming constitutional amendment to see how it will be named. It might as well be a stylistic choice caused by current ideological necessity, not outright renaming. SkyOfRose (talk) 21:14, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
Title change Cont.
[edit]Tomorrow morning, KCNA and Rodong Sinmun will probably publish the report on the 11th Session of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly. I would suggest to rename the article only if the report will specifically mention change of the anthem's name. Other than that, the article should be renamed after the full text has been published.--SkyOfRose (talk) 11:43, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
